This course will assume a certain amount of proficiency as both paddlers and yoga teachers. Ideally you are either a 200 hour RYT teacher through Yoga Alliance or plan on becoming one. In addition, you must be CPR and first aid certified or planning on taking the courses. The WPA Level 1 Instructor Certification is recommended but not required. After completing the course, you will be eligible for CEU's through YOGA ALLIANCE.
Jessica Bellofatto: Jessica has been teaching Yoga for the past 19 years and paddling for the last five. She is also a mother of two amazing children, ages 10 and 7, a doula, surfer, triathlete, and more. She became WPA certified as a SUP instructor in the spring of 2012, as well as a certified stillwater lifeguard (ocean coming soon; she plans to train and take the test this summer). Jessica also owns a Yoga studio in East Hampton, NY called KamaDeva Yoga and has been running her own studio for the past 14 years. She considers herself first and foremost a yoga teacher, but when she began practicing yoga postures on a paddleboard about 4 years ago and started teaching SUP YOGA three years ago, she was hooked. She found it to be an AMAZING combination of all the things she loves the most. Jessica is stoked to share this with you all and spread the SUP YOGA craze! She is also an ambassador for Boga Yoga Paddleboards, who will be providing boards for the training.
Gina Bradley: Formerly a fitness instructor, wind-surfing teacher, and PADI certified Scuba Instructor, she has a real passion for SUP and knew that this was a trend that was about to really catch on for women. Motivated by her love for the sport, Gina began her SUP business by teaching women in East Hampton and listening to what they wanted from the sport. What resulted almost immediately was the creation of the Diva board, a women's stand-up paddle board that has been custom built by Nature Shapes for women only. Gina offers not only this custom-made board, but also SUP instruction, SUP tours, ocean awareness coaching, SUP surf lessons, and kids SUP lessons. Gina lives in East Hampton, NY with her husband Scott and divides her time between there and Rincon, Puerto Rico with her two children, Emma (8 years) and James (5 years), always in tow!
Tuition: The cost of the training is $900. A non-refundable $300 deposit is required to confirm your space on this course. The balance is due four weeks prior to the course. Accommodation: We have some limited accommodations in our house for those of you that need a place to stay, which are on a first come, first serve basis. Here are some other options of places to stay for those of you traveling from out of town.
- Enclave Inn have rates that are very low off-season, so call to see if there is a special.
- The Cozy Cottages also possibly offer low off-season rates.
Transportation: We recommend having your own transportation while you are here. There are Budget and Enterprise car rentals at the East Hampton Air Port. To get to East Hampton, if you are not coming by car:
- The Hampton Jitney bus to East Hampton. Reservations are essential.
- The Long Island Rail Road train to East Hampton. This is the cheapest option.
When to Arrive: Please plan to arrive either Friday evening, or Saturday morning for a 9:30am start time on Saturday.
What to Bring: We will have BOGA boards for your use, so no need to bring your board unless you want to. Please bring your paddle, though, and a PFD (personal flotation device - it's a waist pack) or lifejacket if you have one (let me know if you don't so that we can provide). You will also need a 3/2 wetsuit and booties are also recommended. We will have these available for rental if you do not have your own.
